Brenda Zappitell is a very physical, spontaneous painter, drawing from the emotion she feels in the moment that her brush first touches the blank surface. Moving back and forth with decisive strokes and dynamic gestures, she works rapidly to capture the ephemeral in tangible form. She begins each painting without expectations, working on a subconscious level that disregards logic. Guided by an inner voice, she surrenders control to the paint, the brush, and the visceral process of creative discovery. The many layers in her paintings offer a trail of evidence to her artistic process.
Zappitell observes everything in her life in great detail and is heavily influence by nature, particularly by the sky. While her paintings are abstract, she attempts to capture these natural influences within her compositions. She wants the viewer to understand this natural influence as an expansion of creation.
Brenda Zappitell currently lives in Florida. Although mostly self taught, she has attended classes and workshops in New Mexico, Florida, and Mexico. Her work is held in numerous private and public collections, including the MD Anderson Cancer Center (Houston, TX) and the Hard Rock Hotel (Tampa, FL). Her work has been exhibited in numerous solo exhibitions in the Boca Raton Museum in Florida, as well as multiple group shows in galleries throughout the US.
