In the 21st century, the subject and imagery of the urban landscape has become very common. This familiarity results in the city’s residents to lose the awe and wonder that one must have felt during the Industrial Revolution or when experiencing a place for the first time. These artists attempt to break this frequent mold by reinvestigating their cities of residence (San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Chengdu, China) in order to create experimental and unique works of art that challenge viewers to form a new relationship to the city’s architecture and lifestyle.
